Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced Climate Station, a free educational application for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2, developed in cooperation with the United Nations Playing for the Planet Alliance. It is available now via PlayStation Store.
“Whether you’re a curious explorer, a data detective, or just looking for something totally unique to dive into, this free app available today on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2 is your gateway to understanding the forces shaping our world,” said PlayStation Studios senior director of strategic development and operations Dan Bardino on PlayStation Blog.
“Harnessing the same tech innovations used in blockbuster games, Climate Station delivers a seamless, visually rich experience. On PlayStation 5, you’ll navigate a fully interactive globe, zooming into climate events and data layers with the DualSense controller. On PlayStation VR2, the experience becomes even more immersive—reach out with your PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers and manipulate the Earth itself.
Here is an overview of the application, via PlayStation Store:
About
This isn’t just an app—it’s a portal into the living history of our planet and the futures we still have time to shape.
Designed for the power of PlayStation 5 consoles, and enhanced for PlayStation VR2, this free, immersive experience puts you in the middle of Earth’s most critical story: our own.
Over 90 minutes of interactive content—narrated by climate advocate Laura Tobin—takes you through rising seas, shifting temperatures, and stark climate futures, all built from real-world data by NASA, NOAA, and the IPCC.
Explore three main zones: Weather Year (a time-lapse of planetary change), Observations (where we are), and Projections (where we could go).
It’s not fiction, nor theory. It’s the world as it is—and as it could be.
Created in partnership with leading scientists at The Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading, Berkeley Earth and the Playing for the Planet Alliance, Climate Station invites you to step into the data, witness the change, and decide what your story in this future will be.
An Innovative Learning Tool
The simple truth is that we cannot solve the challenges of our changing environment without first understanding them.
This app has been designed for multiple functions; experience it from the comfort of your own home, or broaden horizons in research and educational settings. Or you can even put it to work as an interactive, scientific tool, transforming complex data into immersive experiences to inspire action—for yourself and others.
Wherever you are—and whoever you may be—equip yourself. Explore the curated multimedia contained within, witness interactive data visualizations and consider the climate you live in.
This is one for all of us to think about.
- Watch the story of our climate unfold, with ‘a year in the life of our planet’, and more.
- Set your Favorite Location on Earth, track the climate through the years and into the future—then discover your own climate story.
